COMPUTER CLUB
Educational Mentoring Program
As computer skills are now an integral part of a child’s learning environment, Link Vision recognised that a computer mentoring program, targeted specifically for children with low or no vision or special needs, using voice to text software would be beneficial. The children learn to use a keyboard and computer from experienced mentors.
Our mentoring program has been established to encourage children with low and no vision and special needs to become familiar with computers and in particular to learn how to touch type.
Our computer club mentors travel to the child’s school, and at times their home, at a time that is suitable for the parent/teacher/school.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Link Vision Computer Club?
It’s our educational mentoring program that helps children with low or no vision, or special needs, build computer skills. Since computer skills are such a core part of learning today, we set up this program to give these children the same opportunity to become confident and capable with technology.
Who is the Computer Club for?
It’s designed specifically for children with low or no vision or special needs.
What do the children learn?
Our mentors focus on helping children get comfortable using a keyboard and computer, with a particular emphasis on learning to touch type. We use voice to text software as part of this, which makes the learning experience more accessible.
Who teaches in the program?
Experienced mentors work one on one with each child, guiding them through using a keyboard and computer at their own pace.
Where do the sessions take place?
Our mentors travel to the child, either at their school or, at times, at home, so families don’t need to arrange transport or fit the program around an external location.
How are session times arranged?
We schedule sessions at a time that suits the parent, teacher or school, so the program fits around the child’s existing routine rather than the other way around.
Is there a cost to join the Computer Club?
The page doesn’t list a fee, so if cost is a factor for your family, it’s worth getting in touch directly to ask.
How do I register my child's interest?
You can fill in the “Register your interest” form on the Computer Club page with your name, email, phone number and a short message, and we’ll follow up with you.
Can I ask questions before registering?
Of course. You’re welcome to call us on 07 3846 1258 or email office@linkvision.org.au if you’d like to know more before signing up.
How is the Computer Club funded?
Like our other programs, the Computer Club is supported by the funds we raise through our Op Shops and donations, since we don’t receive additional government funding for these services.
